Jung ChiuCapital - Other Cities And Attractions
The development of Jung Chiu started after the Yi-Guei Jhu event in the mid-1800s. After the event, Ting-Jhen Lan recruited people to develop this area. Later, Tian-Siou Lang and Sih-Jheng Jhang built Lang-Jhang-Sing village. In 1733, a fort was built in the current Taichung Park. Hence this place was called Dadun. In 1873, since the West Dadun Street in the current Shituen Chiu was fully developed, Shi Chiu was renamed as Dung-Da-Dun. During the late Cing Dynasty, Jung Chiu was part of Lan-Sing-Bao of Taiwan County.
In 1920 of Japanese Colonial Period, it became part of Taichung-Jhou. After 1945, Taichung City was re-divided into Dung Chiu, Shi Chiu, Nan Chiu, Bei Chiu, and Jung Chiu.

Since it was developed earlier than other districts, many historical buildings are located here, such as Taichung Railway Station, Liouyuan Church, and Chang Hwa Bank. All these historical sites witness the development of this area. Electronics Street is the most famous IT-product wholesale center in central Taiwan. Jiguang St. sells all kinds of products, including stuff for celebrating New Year festival. More than 30 marriage shops are located on sections two and three on Shanming Rd. Jhonghua night market is another popular spot.
